what a macro and macro zoom lenses?

The answers above are correct, but here are some examples.
Go to http://www.flickr.com/photos/samfeinstein/ Near the top, click on "tags." In the "Jump to" box, enter the word "Macro" and then press the "GO" button.
The sharpest macro pictures are generally available with a fixed focal length macro lens as opposed to the zoom macro. A "true" macro will go all the way to 1:1 image reproduction, which means that the image on your sensor is the SAME SIZE as the object you are photographing. Most so-called zoom macros see to get only as good as 1:2 ratios or thereabouts. In fact, it seems like anything as good as 1:4 will be labeled as a "macro lens" by most manufacturers.
