$550 is just about the best price I can find among reputable dealers. You might find it cheaper at some place like Photo4less.com but, my experience with them is spotty at best. That is also not a lens that comes up on the used market very often. When it does come up, it doesn't stay on the market for long. The same can be said of the Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8 and Canon's own 17-55mm f/2.8. That said, if you haven't done so already, check the used sections of the Adorama (http://www.adorama.com/catalog.tpl?op=Category&cat1=Used) and B&H Photo (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/browse/Used-Equipment/ci/2870/N/4294247188) websites. You might also want to try http://www.KEH.com or the ubiquitous eBay and craigslist options.
